Games that Rock

Guitar hero was a revolutionary thing. The lay person being able to completely rock out with old school greats is pretty sweet. Technology expanded further allowing for an all out band experience with so aptly named Rock Band. Now, a whole group of no-talent hacks could scream, hit, and strum to their hearts content. As great an experience this is, should it be duplicated?

That is the real question here. Now, some games share many commonalities to another, but still offer enough difference to be worthy of note. However, instead of just taking something from one game while creating a better or different experience all together some companies have decided to completely copy the original idea. Guitar Hero 4 having a drumset complete with cymbals? Konami’s Rock Revolution? These games are absurd copycats. Guitar Hero did start things off, but they could have still chosen another route.

Marketing wise, I’m sure this makes sense as these other companies can squeeze some profit out of their endeavors and not really do that much work. Nonetheless, actually taking time to research other options may even seem more profitable. A keyboard would be easy enough. Maybe these companies can find other venues outside of music and make peripherals for better fishing or hunting games. Everyone loves Duckhunt!
